Two nights in Samburu for Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and river elephants.
A short break in Kenya's dry north. Samburu is home to species you rarely see elsewhere, including Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and gerenuk, and the Ewaso Ng'iro River draws elephants, crocodiles and leopards. Two nights are enough to feel the difference.
After an early breakfast you are collected from your Nairobi hotel and drive to Samburu (about 5 to 6 hours). You arrive at your lodge on the Ewaso Ng'iro River for lunch. An afternoon game drive looks for the northern specials: reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx, plus elephants and crocodiles on the river.
Search the riverbanks and dry bush for Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and Beisa oryx. This is also leopard and lion country, with elephants coming to the river in the heat of the day.
After breakfast, and one last morning game drive if time allows, you drive back to Nairobi (about 5 to 6 hours) with a lunch stop on the way. You are dropped at your hotel or at the airport; an evening flight home is recommended.
